10 Things I wish I knew sooner about running my own business

17 years of running my own businesses, and 7 years into being a coach, and well, I wish I knew at the start it would be ok. There was so much fear and uncertainty, and I knew so little, yet dreamed of so much.

There were times when it was an uphill struggle, I struggled with self doubt, self worth and decision making in a big way. But I made it through every tough time, and rose up again to the next level.

And so will you.

Here’s a few of the things that I would tell my former self….which may help you too.

1. Pay someone who is already where you want to be to show you how to get there faster. You will get this eventually, after making it harder for yourself than it needs to be for the first few years by trying to figure it all out on your own.

2. There’s no rush. Your success will happen at the right time in the highest & best way for you. Enjoy the journey because there is no destination...every time you are about to get there, you will change the goalposts 😉.

3. Work on your money mindset every day in some way, because abundant thinking is EVERYTHING and will change the actions you take and what you believe is possible for yourself. You will be amazed now where you will be in 5 years time, you are capable of more than you think.

4. Make fast decisions - the quicker you get in action, the quicker you will get results. Stop deliberating over if the website Bio has got quite the right tone or the logo the perfect shade. A website is never finished, so quit trying to make it perfect & get it done before you go out into the world and start marketing. No-one will notice.

5. The man and the money won’t come at the same time as one of your early mentors taught you. That may have been her experience, but it does not have to be yours. You absolutely CAN have the money without the man and you CAN make it all on your own. The man is on his own divine timeline so let him be, and focus on being a financially empowered woman & making magic happen in your own life.

6. There's many ways to skin a cat, and not just one right way, so just pick one thing to focus on in your business and stay with it, get known for it, success will come quicker than if you keep changing your mind (and p.s…. you won’t have to do the same thing forever!).

7. With big risks come big rewards. It’s true that success never came from comfort zones, so be prepared to be uncomfortable and know that financial breakthroughs will come from the things you really don’t want to do and that scare you. Soon they won’t scare you at all. You are smarter and more capable than you realise.

8. It’s going to be a wildly exciting ride and a whole new world is going to open up. Growing your business is a wild ride exciting, fun, expansive, full of variety and freedom. Even when you fear the worst it will be ok, and it will always work out somehow…. Even when business dries up, you lose the passion, there are crickets, or you are completely stuck…. You will always find a way through & attract what you need.

9. The rollercoaster of emotions is normal, learning how to manage them is a big part of the entrepreneurial journey.

10. It’s ok to rest and take time out. In fact some of your best ideas & most inspired actions will come through when you take time out. Do drop the guilt and give yourself permission to stop.

What lesson do you wish you had learnt sooner along your business journey?
